Overgrown Nails
Neglected nails can curl and grow into paw pads, causing pain, infection, and altered gait. Many rescue animals arrive with nails so overgrown that walking is uncomfortable. Our groomers carefully trim overgrown nails in stages when needed, avoiding the quick and ensuring the process is as comfortable as possible for an animal that may never have had their nails trimmed before.
In our Grooming School, you’ll get hands-on practice with different nail trimmers—guillotine-style, scissor-style, and grinders. We show you how to spot the quick on dark nails (a skill that takes time and practice). And honestly, you’ll mess up at first. That’s fine. That’s why we have you practice on donated cadavers and fake paws before you touch a live pet. By the end of the program, you’ll be trimming nails like you’ve been doing it for years.
